Amalgamated Banks of South Africa – OO business analysis, design and implementation of the Sales Platform using the following tools: Objectory, Rational Rose, VisualBanker, Digitalk Smalltalk and VisualAge Smalltalk. 1997; 10 months

IBM / IHTN – OO Design and implementation of the database maintenance front-end for a medical aid system, using VisualAge for C++ and DB2/CAE on Windows 95 into DB2/6000. 1998

Standard Bank – OO business analysis of the Bond Registration System. 1998; 4 months

Standard Bank – Worked on the Branch Delivery System (BDS) migration to thin client using the WorkSpace On-Demand technology – 1998; 6 weeks

KWAZULU FINANCE AND INVESTMENT CORPORATION – OO business analysis and design of the Lotus Domino Credit Control and Arrears Management System, with emphasis on credit risk assessment and arrears management. Team leader of 3 members. 1998; 5 months

ABSA (1999) – Solutions architect for the Visual Banker for Java project. Responsibilities included:

1. Educate ABSA employees on the client/server programming model and general architecture of the Visual Banker framework

1. Together with the enterprise architect from ABSA, build an architecture based on reuse of existing components in the Visual Banker for Java framework, and on the EJB-based programming model

2. Building design models for code generation using Rational Rose scripting

NEDCOR (SA Banking Group) (1999) –Adapted the Rational Unified Process (RUP) to the Nedcor development method and process. Designed the application architecture for the Nedcor Credit Risk Management program, which includes Application Assessment, Behavioural Scoring and Collections/Recovery.

MOMENTUM WEALTH (2000) (Individual and Group Risk Cover and Investment Products) – Designed the application architecture around N-Tier Service Based Architecture principles, using the Java and Smalltalk programming languages. Compiled a set of architecture principles. Designed the following infrastructure services:

• HTML-based, context sensitive User Help

• User Management (PKI-based authentication and permissions-based authorization)

• Distributed Exception Handling

• Also designed code review checklists and conducted code reviews

• Active team participation in architecture design to ensure buy-in and conformance

• Development of a programming model to ensure uniform development style and conformance to the application architecture

IBM SOUTH AFRICA (2001) – 6-month contract as lead developer on a Websphere Business Components Composer project, building an Internet Personal Loan Application System at ABSA, a large South African Banking Group. Responsibilities included:

• Designing the development standards

• Framework skills transfer to ABSA and IBM developers

• Participated in architectural decisions

• Created a development strategy for future use by ABSA

ABSA (2002)

• Jan – May. Team lead on the WebSphere Internet Banking project. Now in production.

• June – November. Solutions Architect on the Internet Vehicle Finance Application System. Reponnsibilities include solution architecture based on the Expresso open source framework (adapted for Absa) , and design from the requirements use case model using Rational Rose,

  ensuring adherence to the Absa 4-layer application architecture designed for productivity and reuse

  reusing infrastructure components from the open source Expresso-based Absa framework

  adopting Rational ClearCase for source control and Rational ClearQuest for activity management and defect support

  Architected, designed and built the SAPO Internet Track and Trace System, based on a web services architecture. Responsibilities included

  Designing web services for web clients and b2b corporate clients, enabling interaction of .NET client software with J2EE business services

  SAFMARINE COMPUTER SERVICES CAPE TOWN – 2004 (as employee)
  Technical architect on the team building and maintaining the Belgium-based www.safmarine.com portal using the IBM WebSphere Portal Server technology.
